High, snow-sure skiing across the Silvretta Arena into Switzerland — and the biggest party in the Alps.
Ischgl has two reputations and both are earned. The first is the skiing: the Silvretta Arena is high, extensive and mostly above 2,000 metres, with a lift link over the ridge to Samnaun in Switzerland, and its snow record in December is among the best in Austria despite the village sitting at 1,377 metres.
The second is the nightlife, which is on an industrial scale and involves stadium concerts at the top of the mountain. This makes Ischgl a superb choice for a group of adult friends and a questionable one for a family with young children at Christmas.
