Quietly the most exclusive village in the Alps, and among the snowiest places in Austria.
Lech is where the Austrian and Dutch royal families ski, and it wears that lightly. The village is small, built in traditional Vorarlberg style, and the whole place is notably free of the neon and noise of St Anton an hour down the valley — despite sharing the same Ski Arlberg lift pass and the same 2,811-metre high point.
It sits in a pocket of the Arlberg that gets reliably heavy snowfall, and the skiing is mostly wide, sunny, immaculately groomed intermediate terrain. The famous White Ring circuit takes most of a day. Prices are high and the hotels are excellent.
