La Plagne is made up of eleven separate villages spread across a high bowl, some purpose-built at altitude, some traditional and lower down. It is the busiest ski resort in the world by skier-days, which tells you something about how well the terrain suits the average holiday skier.

The Bellecôte glacier takes the area to 3,250 metres and the Vanoise Express links it to Les Arcs. The skiing is overwhelmingly blue and red, the nursery areas are generous, and for a large mixed group wanting a lot of piste without a lot of drama it is one of the best-value choices in France.

Depends entirely on the village. Plagne 1800 and Montchavin have some charm and a proper Christmas feel; the high purpose-built centres are functional. As a whole the resort puts on a good Christmas Eve for families.
